THE Southern Highlands provincial government has thanked the O’Neill government for making available K13 million for victims of the floods and landslides four weeks ago.
“This support is big and it will be used wisely to help places and people who have been affected,” Robin Tuna from the  Southern Highlands governor’s office said.
Tuna said it was big relief for the people and the province.
“On behalf of Governor Powi and the people of Southern Highlands, I want to acknowledge the national government and the leadership of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion and the National Executive Council for the
support,” he said.
“The province has been facing a big problem through floods and landslides and many parts of the province have been affected.
“I would like to thank the Chief Secretary Manasupe Zurenuoc who had been on the ground to assess the situation last week.”
“This was the first of its kind for the province to experience such disaster and people are still in shock.”
He said the provincial government committed K300,000 for the victims of the disaster and the money would be released soon to the disaster committees so that they could help those who are in urgent need of
supplies.
