BINTANGOR Goroka Lahanis owner Simon Sia, pictured, was the happiest man at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in Port Moresby on Sunday.
The Lahanis repaid the faith he showed in them over the last 11 years when they snatched a 10-6 win over the Enga Mioks in the Digicel Cup grand final.
Sia told The National that it was his obligation as a businessman in Eastern Highlands to give something back to the community.
“I will always back the Lahanis in the years to come, as long as I am around,” Sia said.
He praised his players for displaying the hunger to win.
“We already anticipated that we would win because of the confidence the players had during our preparation,” he said.
“It is a relief to the people of Eastern Highlands, who followed the Lahanis throughout the season.”
Sia commended coach Glen Nami for moulding the team into a genuine premiership contender in the semi-professional competition.
Nami, a former Lahanis player himself, thanked Sia for his support towards the team.
“He is a foreign businessman, who has a heart for rugby league,” Nami said.
“He follows the Lahanis around to support the players.”
