LOCAL level government stations in far off locations of Morobe are either in appalling physical state or have simply gone back to bush.

Morobe Governor Kelly Naru declared that he was shocked at the state of Siassi Island station in the far northwestern corner of Morobe when he visited last month.

Most infrastructure on the island, including a ring road, fell into disuse years ago and public servants fled the island for locations closer to Lae city.

“Where have your political leaders been all these years?” he asked.

This is reflective of the government station at Morobe Patrol Post which Naru is expected to visit next month.

Apart from the Morobe Primary School, the rest of the once thriving station has gone back to bush.
