Sides fight for finals spot in Southern 9s

ERIMA Laumas face Siporo Magpies and Lako One meet Benpro Rebels for spots in the cup final of the Southern Nines rugby league tournament in Port Moresby today.
It is another daunting task in the blazing heat of the nation’s capital with teams battling out in the preliminary finals at the National Football Stadium today.
Favourites and reigning champions Lako, Laumas, Magpies and Rebels kept their cup hopes alive with impressive performances.
These sides remain unbeaten and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the cup race.
The country’s biggest nines tournament offers a great experience for rural talent with Southern Nines organiser Sportz Events targeting rugby league development in the region.
In the cup quarterfinals, Lako edged KST Drifters 7-6 and Lako Development 11-10. Magpies beat Tatana Island 16-4 and Rebels defeated Taurama Waves 10-6.
The showdown between Laumas and Magpies is expected to be a heated affair with both teams fielding their strongest sides. This will be anybody’s game and should be interesting to watch.
Lako will be aiming for nothing less than a win when the face Rebels to keep their title defence alive.
