UNDEFEATED champions UNRE Silencers earned their well-deserved grand final win in the inaugural East New Britain pre-season netball competition recently.
With the top four of a12-team field battling it out courtside in sweltering conditions, competition was tense amid the finals fever.
Agmark Poroman were the first casualties of the day going down to UNRE Silencers while court two saw Wantoks buckle under the pressure against SAS Mermaids.
These deciding matches then set the scene for the finals which played out in front of quite literally truckloads of spectators all coming to witness the day’s sporting spectacle.
The newly elected and affiliated ENB Netball Association welcomed the attendance of Christine Masiu, adviser for the East New Britain division of community development, who  presented the winning team and most valuable player (MVP) awards and prizes sponsored by Brian Bell.
Boasting not only the overall winners, but also team supporting the MVP, UNRE Silencers showed deep gratitude to the new committee, competition organisers and sponsors alike for their support of the ENB netball pre-season at OLSH Secondary School.
With netball passion at fever pitch, the ENB netball association will launch a new competition which will be affiliated with the PNG Netball Federation, commencing on Saturday, June 18.
With teams already registering to join and sponsors getting behind the revitalised netball association in ENB, this season is set to send a positive ripple through the sporting community to promote not only women in sport, but healthy living and community spirit.
