Silupa thanks govt for prioritising education

THE people of Lufa district in the Eastern Highlands have thanked the government for making basic education a priority.
Vice-minister for Finance and Lufa MP Yawa Silupa was speaking on behalf of the people of Lufa district during the opening of a new school library building that coincided with annual Grade 8 graduation at Kiseveroka Primary School last Friday.
He said important areas such as health, rural transport infrastructure, communication and fighting corruption had been given special attention.
“I thank the government for giving priorities to these important areas.”
He said to complement this, the Lufa joint district budget planning and priorities committee (JDP&BPC) had funded 11 new school library buildings which were completed at K1.43 million. Each buildings cost K130,000.
“School libraries are an important school component to help school children access information they needed to excel in learning,” Silupa said.
Deputy chairman of Lufa JDP&BPC and president of Yagaria LLG Elvin Hawa said only through such collaborative effort, the vision of the country’s millennium development goals and vision 2050 would be achieved.
Hawa called on the people to look after the library building and support any education programmes in the district.
