Simbu’s teaching programme begins

SIMBU provincial government and administration’s four-year effort to have some trained teachers will see 10 trainees starting classes at the Madang Teachers College.
The trainees, all educated to Grade 10 or 12, had automatic entry to the college.
Karamui-Nomane MP Posi Menai was involved in the selection of the trainees to ensure fair and balanced representation.
Karamui is accessible only by air and is often left out in development.
Principal education adviser, Essy Walkaima, said the breakthrough was finding trainees who were willing to live and teach in Karamui.
Mr Menai had deposited a total of K160,000 for training teachers.
Mr Walkaima said trainees would sign an MoU when graduating to teach in Karamui only, adding that his office was negotiating with other colleges for similar arrangements.
