THE 5th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture village will remain intact for some time, National Cultural Commission director Dr Jacob Simet says.

“We should keep the village a little while because the festival has just ended and the spirit of the event is still felt and told today,” Simet said.

He said the festival village was built on the National Museum land.

The commission met with a representative from the National Capital District Commission and the head of the National Museum this week to discuss possible uses of the festival village.

Simet said there were suggestions the festival village could be used for cultural events or set as an arts and craft market.

Meanwhile, the carved totem poles left by the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Fiji are still at the festival village.
