AGRICULTURE and Livestock Minister John Simon says the honey industry will receive K1 million this year under the Government’s
agriculture intervention programme.
He addressed honey farmers at the National Park in Goroka on Friday, witnessed by Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu, provincial administrator John Gimiseve, Unggai-Bena MP Benny Allan and Livestock Development Corporation (LDC) managing director Terry Koim.
“Honey can become a big industry,” he said.
“We (Government) will stay with you (farmers), we will work with you to establish markets, set up centres to properly process honey, and will help to take your honey to market.”
Simon said he wanted to see PNG honey sold around the world and urged farmers to set up beehives, telling them: “We will help you.”
He instructed department secretary Daniel Kombuk to develop a policy on the PNG’s honey industry.
