Sinebare reappointed as VC for university
PROFESSOR Musawe Sinebare has been reappointed by the University of Goroka (UoG) Council as vice-chancellor for the next four years.
UoG Chancellor Prof Joseph Sukwianomb made the announcement last week during a farewell function for the council’s executive officer Ben Suming.
Sukwianomb said the recent renewal was something the university took seriously which included a rigorous scrutiny of performance appraisals by a committee on Sinebare under his current contract.
“I thank Suming for his foresight in coming up with internal systems and a policy that will empower our heads and deputies,” he said.
“This is a first for University of Goroka since its 20 years as an institution.
“This is part of the compliance by the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology.
“The Compliance Act of 2014 and 2018 on the performance of universities, so we at UoG have undertaken this on ourselves to ensure we are transparent.”
Sinebare’s current contract expires on June 23.
Following this evaluation, the council was satisfied that the university had been normalised and stabilised with new initiatives including reviews of its current academic and administrative structures and programmes.
The council was aiming to drive new initiatives, including strengthening academic standards, quality research and to take university education to provinces.
