THE Sinopharm coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccination programme at the Port Moresby General Hospital is progressing well, registering daily increases in the number of people accepting the vaccine, a health official says.
Port Moresby General Hospital’s medical services director Dr Kone Sobi said: “The unvaccinated must start making the right decision and choice to get vaccinated”.
“That is important for their personal health, public and country.”
Port Moresby-based Chinese companies on Monday presented equipment to the Chinese medical team carrying out Covid-19 vaccination at the hospital.
The equipment include a refrigerator, cold chain boxes and personal protective equipment such as gloves, masks, gowns and temperature guns.
“These equipment and consumables will be used for the roll-out of the Sinopharm vaccine launched about three weeks ago,” Dr Sobi said.
Dr Sobi said vaccination would reduce transmission of the virus and “hopefully we can get out of this pandemic as soon as possible”.
The Chinese medical team assistant captain and consultant neonatologist Dr Liu Zhenqui said a cold chain box could hold up to 500 doses of the vaccine which would solve the issue of getting a few doses daily to PMGH to use daily.
“We need all these equipment to make the roll-out of the vaccine more convenient,” he said.
“We have been helping the hospital’s vaccination team last week and now the team can run the vaccination programme themselves,” he said.
