They say patience is a virtue and 28-year-old Nigel Sio, an IT network technician with bemobile, can attest to that.

Sio will be flying to New Delhi, in India, after winning a three-month scholarship.

He will be doing an advanced diploma in networking at the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) from Nov 8 to Jan 31. Sio was offered the scholarship by the Indian government.

“The field I work in is very broad and with the limited skills and understanding, I cannot achieve targets and contribute meaningfully to the core business,” he said.

“The course will give me a clearer understanding of networking and an opportunity to develop my career and personal growth in the networking field. The knowledge and skills attained from this training will be of benefit to me and bemobile.

Raj Deo, PNG chief executive of bemobile, said: “The life skills in going overseas and understanding different cultures and expectations are very valuable and it will assist us in our re-development of the network in PNG.”
