THE Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG (ELCPNG) announced yesterday that Kambang Holdings, the sole shareholder of its business arm, will be led by an interim board.
Sir Arnold Amet, a former Madang governor, chief justice and a member of the church had been named to chair the interim board.
The church owns Lutheran Shipping with Kambang Holdings and is taking care of all its businesses.
Head Bishop Giegre Wenge, who announced the appointment at a press conference in Lae yesterday, said a special shareholders’ meeting on Nov 15 terminated the former board for not implementing the directions of the church and appointed seven new members.
The meeting also affirmed the resolutions of the church council and synod to suspend Lutheran Shipping’s chief executive officer Agua Nombri for three months pending an investigation into the shipping company’s operations by an independent committee.
Wenge said the interim board’s immediate responsibility was to establish an investigation committee that would report its findings at the shareholders’ annual general meeting in March next year.
Sir Arnold said the interim board had immediately given effect to the resolutions and instructions of the church and shareholders.
He said besides deciding to suspend Nombri, it had decided to appoint Tonessi Ewebi as acting chief executive pending the outcome of the investigations.
Sir Arnold said a committee would also be set up to investigate various aspects of Lutheran Shipping’s operations.
He said Ewebi had been asked to ensure that management and staff were free to cooperate with the investigation committee without fear of penalty.
Sir Arnold said he hoped the actions taken would stabilise the company and its
service to the travelling public.
