GOVERNOR-General Sir Bob Dadae appreciates the work Polish Catholic missionaries, health workers and educators and says they are making an enormous contribution to PNG’s development.
Speaking at the presentation of credential letters by the High Commissioner Michal Kolodziejski yesterday, he acknowledged that Poland maintained an honorary consul in Port Moresby.
Fr Jan Czuba is the honorary consul. He was recently appointed the Secretary for the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology.
“We further acknowledge the Polish representation, through his Fr Jan Czuba, who has been a great support in the education sector,” Sir Bob said.
Since diplomatic relations were formally established on March 10, 1978, both countries continued to enjoy warm and friendly relations and these relations could be further strengthened and expanded in areas of trade, investment and development cooperation, he said.
He said Poland was a fast-growing economy in Central Europe and the European Union and PNG would welcome it for investment and development opportunities.
“These investment opportunities are in the resource sectors of forestry and green energy, and other sectors such as information technology, telecommunication and manufacturing which could be further explored,” Sir Bob said.
He thanked Polish volunteers who had and were continuing to serve the people of Papua New Guinea under the United Nations Volunteer Service Overseas (VSO) programmes and appreciated the substantial contribution by Poland to the European Union that assisted PNG in the development agenda.
He thanked the Polish president for inviting PNG to the 24th Conference of Parties (COP24) on climate change that will be hosted in Katowice, Slaskie in December.
