Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae has described the late Dr Lawrence Kalinoe as an “outstanding and well-respected lawyer in Papua New Guinea and the region”.
Former Secretary for Department of Justice and Attorney-General Kalinoe was pronounced dead on arrival at Madang’s Modilon Hospital on Wednesday.
“Our country has lost an outstanding member of the law profession, and a widely-respected academic and former bureaucrat in the late Dr Kalinoe,” Sir Bob said.
“Dr Kalinoe has been an outspoken advocate for change in the public service and not one to shy away from pointing out discrepancies in the public service and calling to account those responsible.
“A very-competent and highly-experienced lawyer whose insight about our country’s laws, coupled with his passion to highlight issues affecting our people at the community level, is highly regarded and will be sadly missed.
“In mourning his loss, may we also celebrate his life and the contributions he made to our nation.
“I convey my condolences to the family, relatives and colleagues of Dr Kalinoe and pray that God’s grace comfort you all during this difficult time.”
Kalinoe was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2015.
