Sir Charles appointed non-executive director of Geopacific board


SIR Charles Lepani has been appointed as a non-executive director to the board of Geopacific Resources Ltd (Geopacific).
Sir Charles has over 40 years experience in the public and private sectors representing Papua New Guinea as a senior diplomat and adviser with great success and distinction.
His most recent roles were as PNG High Commissioner to Australia from 2005 to 2017 and director-general of PNG Apec 2017-2018.
He is a graduate of the University of Papua New Guinea with an Arts Degree (economics) and a Fulbright Scholarship recipient attending the John F Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, in Boston, USA, graduating with a Masters of Public Administration.
Chairman Ian Clyne said: “It is an honour and privilege for Geopacific to have Sir Charles Lepani join our board.
Sir Charles is a highly regarded, highly ethical person with many years outstanding service to his country. His appointment further demonstrates Geopacific’s commitment to successfully delivering the Woodlark Island gold project, to the benefit of our shareholders, stakeholders, the communities on Woodlark Island, Milne Bay and the people of PNG.”
Sir Charles said he was pleased to be invited by the board of Geopacific to serve as a non-executive director.
“I look forward to the opportunity to help ensure we build this quality project for the benefit of all stakeholders,” he said.
“As a person from Milne Bay myself, I am congnizant of the challenges of development and the potential for the mine project to contribute to real benefits
for the people of Woodlark Island, for Milne Bay, and indeed, for PNG.”

  • While the Gold Miner Geopacific was reported to have delivered low cost sub-standard resettlement homes for the poor landowners of Beautiful Woodlark Island, it is en-lighting to see Sir Charles taking one of this high post. Hoping for the best for the People of Woodlark and Milne Bay in partnering and sharing benefits from the project!!!
