CHIEF Justice Sir Gibbs Salika has asked judges to complete all decisions they had reserved.
During the opening of the legal year in Port Moresby yesterday at the Waigani PNG Bible Church, he said it also applied to him.
“I will ensure that I have a workable plan to execute my goals,” he said.
He believes that the police and courts can achieve their goals this year.
“At my maiden welcome speech, I mentioned some things which I pledged to do in my term in office as the chief justice. One of them was to have judges complete their reserved decisions as soon as possible,” he said.
Sir Gibbs said it could be achieved only if judges had self-discipline and good work habits.
He advised judges, lawyers and the people that discipline in work ethics was key to positive outcomes in their workplaces.
“It forms good work habits such as focusing on your roles, duties, functions and enables you to stay motivated,” he said.
“Completing given tasks in set timelines helps create a good work ethic. Your employer will be happy, your clients will be happy and satisfied.”
He said discipline would also help individuals develop a culture of efficiency, effectiveness and excellence.
“Self-discipline at the work place is a positive effect which helps in developing set ways for our thoughts, actions, and habits,” Sir Gibbs said.
“It is an art of self-control, and self-reliance, which empowers a person to abide to his/her decision and propels individuals to achieving set goat.”
Sir Gibbs said discipline could be managed by “knowing your weakness, removing urgency and temptations, setting clear goals and have execution plans that focus on your goals”.
“Keep simple and good habits and eat well and keep healthy,” he said.
