NEW Island Governor Sir Julius Chan has been asked to pay K20,000 to ship a fire engine from Port Moresby to Kavieng.
This will be done once an inspection report carried out by a representative of the Kavieng Fire Station and his Port Moresby counterpart is done.
Papua New Guinea Fire Services chief officer Bill Roo told The National that the 4,000hp fully kitted fire engine, used by the Waigani Fire Station, would be sent to Kavieng.
The matter had been discussed with Sir Julius earlier.
“This fire engine has all fire equipment with road and accidents equipments as well. I paid K20,000 in service fees to Ela Motors to boost its mechanical condition,” Roo said.
He said a China-aid fire truck was being used by the Waigani Fire Station which replaced the 4,000hp engine.
Kavieng Station commander Supt Tonny Leslie said the current fire truck used at Kavieng had a 700hp engine.
