GREATER development opportunities and improved services will transform New Hanover Island to be on par with the mainland over the next few years, New Ireland province Governor Sir Julius Chan says.
“With a change of attitude towards more cooperation among themselves and the government, New Hanover will truly realise the benefits of the Malagan Declaration, where it says ‘the farther you are the more we care and that no one should be left behind”.
“The transformation of New Hanover will symbolise the fulfilment of the vision of the Malagan Declaration,” he said.
Sir Julius said this when he sent thank you letters to head masters of New Hanover High School and Ranmelek, who hosted the governor, provincial cabinet and a delegation from the New Ireland provincial administration recently at Konomatalik and Ranmelek.
The delegation officiated at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Trans-New Hanover Highway, now already under construction, handover of K50,000 for the Kone aid post and launched plans for the transformation of New Hanover High School into a model high school, which will equal the best and most modern in Papua New Guinea, as promised to the people last December.
In his letter to the new Hanover High School head master, Sir Julius thanked the people, especially the Kokomo clan who “have been very supportive and cooperative in making these developments possible”.
“With your continued cooperation with the provincial government, we can achieve many new and different approaches to improve our communities and way of life,” Sir Julius said.
Writing to the head master and parents of Ranmelek Primary School, where he opened a new school building, Sir Julius said he and the government delegation were inspired by the joy and contentment that showed on the faces and the actions of the children, “who even at that age, showed much understanding of the importance to their future of our education policies”.
