Sir J thanks islanders for hosting meeting

New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan visited Anir and Tanga islands last month to thank them for hosting the Council of Elders’ Conference.
The conference was held in November at Tanir High School where the prime minister and senior ministers called in to sign the service delivery partnership agreement for autonomy.
Sir Julius met with Anir Island people and Waramung people.
The Anir communities welcomed the news of road upgrading and budget funding of K150,000 for the Babase health centre and K100,000 for Natong aid post.
Sir Julius announced funding for upgrading of the road on Boeng and Malendok worth K2.5 million and K150,000 for the new church building at Amfar.
He concluded his journey by opening a new pastor’s house at Himaul village on the mainland.
Sir Julius told the church congregation that he was impressed to learn of their persistence to raise money for their pastor’s house with government contributions of K25,000.
