NEW Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan has urged the people to return to their land and farm it, instead of waiting for handouts from the Government.
“With agriculture, you cannot lose,” Sir Julius said. “In New Ireland, we are all fortunate to own land.
“Tell me where in the world do you find an entire population owning land?
“Land is a priceless commodity which many of you have forgotten.
“With land, you can never go hungry.
“You can grow your own garden produce and sell the surplus.”
Sir Julius said people could develop finished products such as chocolate, coconut oil, soap and beauty products.
“In this day and age, it is much easier to access information online,” he said. “You can come up with your agriculture-based and tourism-based farms and make money out of them.”
He said market access was a problem that they were working to fix.
