Sir Julius names four students for Aust study

Education

Two girls and two boys have been given New Ireland government scholarships to do grade 11 at secondary schools in Australia.
They are Sharon Komenang, from Kabil; Savanna Chamber, from Sena; Emmanuel Maira, from Matantiduk village; and Tapilas Victor, from Lavongai village in New Hanover.
“You are specially chosen and your scholarship is very expensive, so you have to live up to the expectations of my government and all of us,” New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan said.
“Be not afraid. You will mingle with the Australians, eat with them, pray with them, play with them and work together so take care and don’t let yourselves and New Ireland down.
“You have nothing to be frightened of because you have friends in our pioneer students of last year who will be there for the second year.”
All seven New Ireland students – three continuing students and the four new ones – will leave for Australia on Thursday.
The girls will attend Stuarthholmes College and the boys to Marist Ashgrove College, which Sir Julius also attended.
Marist College Ashgrove is a Roman Catholic day and boarding school for boys at Ashgrove, a northern suburb of Brisbane.
Stuartholme School is a Catholic day and boarding school for girls, at Toowong, in Brisbane.
Marist Ashgrove has produced some good rugby players like former Australian internationals Des Conner and John Eales.
“The Stuarthholmes College is a Gothic, magnificent hilltop campus overlooking Brisbane city on a majestic setting,” he said.
“I am proud the government is sending our students to the best colleges in Australia.”
