NEW Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan has called on Churches to invest in innovative infrastructure instead of ordinary type of projects.
Chan made the comment during the second and final batch of payments of Church grants for 2019 with a total of K3.35 million distributed among the Catholic Church, United, Seventh Day Adventist and other smaller Christian denominations.
“Think new and act new, build something different and unique not the ordinary hut style of buildings we see around,” Chan said.
The final cheque presentation of K700,000 to the Catholic Church and K500,000 to the United Church took place at the Government House in Kavieng on Monday.
“This Government needs you to partner with us to lift the living standards of our people.
“We believe you will do the right thing by managing the funding to serve the people.
“You are our arm of service delivery.
“You are independent and we will not dictate where you spend the funding but please ensure the funds reach the people.
“You do your part and we will do our part,” Chan said.
Since the inception of the grant in 2015, a total of K13.15 million has been expended.
The church representatives praised the New Ireland Government for the funding initiative and proclaimed prosperity upon it.
“I salute God for this Government, may this Government continue to discover Gods mind.
“We assure you we are managing our funds well, with K250,000 we have managed to deliver 30 projects and there is more to come,” said United Church Rev. Ellison Tami.
