Sir Michael living in fantasyland
The National, Wednesday 22nd Febuary 2012
SIR Michael Somare has publicly announced that he will contest the regional seat for East Sepik in the coming election for two reasons.
First, to prove that he still has the people’s support in the political point scoring game; and second, to heed the East Sepik people’s request.
I am not too sure about the second reason because despite what he is telling the public, I doubt very much he can muster the same amount of support he enjoyed in past elections.
A lot has happened and people are more conscious now about their choice of candidacy.
Sir Michael has been there, done this and that.
Hence he has really used up all his marbles over the past 40 years, so what is there to offer this time around?
Like everything, all good things must come to an end and unfortunately Sir Michael’s usefulness has now gone beyond his “use-by date”.
It is really a personal choice during election time and people will be the ultimate decision makers when they cast their votes.
To use his own phrase “mark my words” – he
will not be back after the 2012 election.
