Sir Michael queries use of Falcon jet
The National, Wednesday February 11th, 2015
SIR Michael Somare has queried the Government why it is using the Falcon jet which was supposed to have been sold.
Sir Michael, who was prime minister when the aircraft was bought, said the Government must explain why it was still using the aircraft.
He called on Public Enterprises and State Investments Minister Ben Micah to tell the nation why the aircraft had not been sold as previously announced by the Government.
“Micah, as the minister responsible, must explain to the people of Papua New Guinea and Parliament, on the continuous use of the Falcon jet by the Government and how much the National Government owes Air Niugini for using the Falcon since 2013,” he said. “I copped all the criticism regarding the purchase of the aircraft as prime minister.
“But the way the Falcon is used today needs more explanation on the hire by Government.”
He said Micah and Air Niugini should cut down on use of Falcon jet rather than imposing the 20 per cent pay cut on the airline’s pilots.
