FORMER Pangu Pati leaders Sir Michael Somare and Sir Rabbie Namaliu visited the Laguna camp yesterday to show their support for current party members.
Sir Michael, regarded as the founding father of Papua New Guinea, former prime minister and Pangu Pati leader, said every political party had its ups and downs and success stories and Pangu was one them.
“We are here to encourage the young leaders to come forward, to work together and support the new team of Pangu leaders,” he said.
Sir Michael said that there was nothing wrong with the present government but things were not right for the people.
“High cost of living and when there is high cost of living then you know that something is very wrong because Papua New Guinea is blessed with so many resources,” he said.
“We have resources, we have oil and gas, mineral resources and many resources like fisheries and agriculture.
“But still there is something wrong because the cost of living for our people has increased. And that is why we are here, to support for this purpose.”
Sir Michael encouraged the new team of Pangu leaders to plan ahead always and do things right and maybe then people could be happy.
“We leave it in your good hands, you can make it,” he said.
Sir Michael and Sir Rabbie were accompanied by former MP for Lae Tonny Ila.
Pangu Pati member and Tari-Pori MP James Marape thanked the two former prime ministers and former MP for visiting them and said that they were all about going forward.
“Pangu will play a big role in the formation of a new government from May 28 and onwards under the new banner ‘Taking Back PNG’,” he said.
Marape said that they wanted to see people benefitting more from their resources.
“It’s not about chasing investors away, it’s about improving the system so that both the investors and the people are happy,” he said.
