Sir Michael unlikely to retire anytime soon

SIR Michael Somare is seeking Sepik power to return him to parliament.
I think it is simply to satisfy his ego and pride.
He should have retired from politics and make way for vibrant people such as Allan Bird
or other young people to take over and bring services to East Sepik.
But he continues to hang onto power and this shows that he does not care about the welfare of the people of East Sepik.
The basic infrastructure in the province is falling apart.
There is hardly any development, the economy is stagnant and many East Sepiks are suffering.
His victory will come at the expense of the people.
His extended stay in parliament will only hinder the development and progress in the province.
He seeks Sepik power not to bring tangible development but to complete the fight he lost last year when he was ousted.
In other words, he is fighting to restore his pride and ego.
He has already said that he will throw the O’Neill-Namah cabinet behind bars if he forms government.
But the people have spoken and it is still early days to predict who will form the next government.
A piece of advice for him: He should swallow his pride and spend one year in parliament and then  retire, leaving behind a legacy
But knowing him, my prediction is that Sir Michael will not retire from politics after he wins.
He will hang onto power to ensure that the O’Neill-Namah cabinet is jailed by forming the next government or through a vote of no-confidence against the new government.
This country belongs to the seven million people, not to Sir Michael.
We do not want to see anymore political impasse because of one person’s pride and ego.
