Sir Michael vows not to stop ‘until we get it right’

PRIME Minister Sir Michael Somare has called on all Papua New Guineans to be proud of the gains that PNG has achieved as a nation in its 34 years of independence.
He said as Papua New Guineans “we must be confident and proud of the many positive developments that have taken place”.
“Many think that the job of governing a nation such as PNG is easy and even simple. I can tell you that even without the backdrop of the rapid technological advances and globalisation, there are many other challenges we face as a government.”
He said some would be quick to conceal these facts as excuses, but history had it all on record.
Sir Michael said “here in PNG, we are constantly addressing the challenge of effective service delivery. Over the years, many initiatives were introduced. People of Papua New Guinea, I will not stop until we get it right”.
In January last year, the NEC re-established a National Planning Committee that resolved to put in place a longer National Strategic Plan that will move this country forward in the next 40 years.
Sir Michael said the task force headed by Dr David Kavanamur was working tirelessly at finalising this plan of action. “I want to leave office knowing that PNG is heading in the right direction.”
