POLAND’S Ambassador to Papua New Guinea Pawel Milewski is in Port Moresby to strengthen bilateral relations between the countries.

Milewski presented his credentials to Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio at Government House yesterday.

Sir Michael acknowledged the leading role played by Poland in the European Union.

“We look forward to enhancing and furthering the already good bilateral relations that exist between PNG and the Republic of Poland,” he said.

Sir Michael said the PNG Government recognised the continued support that Poland extended to PNG’s development aspirations.

“PNG would like increased cooperation in areas of trade, tourism, investment and development that would be beneficial to both our countries and people,” he said.

“In the international arena, our countries desire to promote democratic principles and share similar principles of peaceful coexistence and security in our respective regions as well as in the global community.

“Papua New Guinea is grateful to Poland for the Polish Catholic missionaries who contributed to the development of this country in terms of education, health care and social welfare activities,” Sir Michael told Milewski.

“We accept your desire to continue to support the efforts of the missionaries and anticipate providing the necessary support for them to implement their programmes.”
