FORMER governor-general Sir Paulias Matane is confident he will continue serving the people despite his poor health.
He said in Kokopo yesterday after receiving medical treatment at the Saint Mary’s Vunapope hospital that he was experiencing severe joint pains on his right leg.
Sir Paulias said many people were concerned about his health, saying it was because he worked as a volunteer seven-days-a-week without rest.
However, he said he was not going to let the joint pains discourage him from serving the people.
“When you know something, share it with others. Assist other people by sharing your experiences with them,” the grand chief said.
Sir Paulias said many public servants were yet to “pull up their socks”, adding this was one reason that pushed him to work hard for the people as a volunteer.
“Many public servants are not being honest with their work. I am very disappointed with them choosing to remain dishonest and not serving the people well as they should do. We can do a lot more for the people, PNG can be better,” he said.
He said while many in PNG had enjoyed Easter with families and friends, it was important to remember the true meaning of Easter.
Sir Paulias added the true meaning of Easter is also captured in the country’s constitution that is why it is called a “Christian country”.
