ENGA Governor Sir Peter Ipatas wants his people, especially in the Pilikambi area, to stop tribal fights and focus on major infrastructure developments.
He made the call on Wednesday during the signing of the K200 million Pilikambi hydro power project agreement (MoA) between the Enga Hydro Power Ltd, a business arm of the provincial government, and Powerchina (PNG) Ltd in Wabag.
Sir Peter said tribal fighting was a sore in the society and the leaders and their people should be embarrassed because it hindered development.
He said Enga was taking the frontline in terms of service delivery and this is what people should take pride in.
He said Enga has been in the frontline for development, especially in education, health and major infrastructure developments.
Sir Peter said that the project would create spin-off benefits as well for the community as well.
“These are opportunities, you must not take them for granted.
“They are here to help you and your children.”
Sir Peter condemned community leaders for coming out in public with “neck ties” but returning to the village with firearms.
“Leaders should not provide a terrorist-type of leadership, they should educate and tell their people to stop this lawlessness,” he said.
Provincial administrator Dr Samson Amean described Enga as one of the lucky provinces to experience major developments.
