ABAU parliamentarian and Public Service Minister Sir Puka Temu has taken Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s call for greater commitment to sports to heart, handing the Aroma Coast Netball K20,000.
The funding comes from his district funds.
Receiving the cheque at the Public Services Commission office, Morauta Haus, Port Moresby, was Aroma Coast Netball Association president Geno Tae.
“The government has made a commitment to support sports as best we can, and we have paid a bit more attention to sports in Aroma,” Sir Puka said.
“Hopefully through this funding, a couple of women and girls can excel in their dreams.
“I hope that the little money will go a long way for netball and the women of Aroma.
“It is not just sports or an avenue for socialising, it is about a human development platform where discipline is found, where women are networking, planning and united.
“Sports is an important aspect of nation building.”
Tae thanked Sir Puka for his support for the new association.
“We are particularly grateful that our member and Public Service Minister has shown his support for our association, because it is new, and it is an avenue that will give specific attention to Aroma womenfolk,” Tae said.
