Eighty-nine lawyers that graduated from Legal Training Institute (LTI) were admitted to the bar of the National and Supreme Court in Waigani on Friday.

Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia urged the new lawyers to “know and respect the rule of law” because of its importance and relevance today.

Sir Salamo told the lawyers that they “are the forefront of leading the pursuit of preserving the rule of law”.

“Lawyers and judges continue to work tirelessly in upholding the rule of law,” Sir Salamo said.

He said the respect for the rule of law began with public respect and confidence in the independence, integrity, dignity and efficiency of the courts.

Sir Salamo congratulated the new lawyers and welcomed them into the legal profession.

He told them to be proud of their achievement in making it so far because he said the pathway to the law profession was not easy.

The 89 lawyers were divided into five courtrooms where their admissions were chaired by Sir Salamo, Justice Ellenas Batari, Justice Sir Bernard Sakora, Justice Nicholas Kirriwom and Justice Les Gavara-Nanu respectively.

The lawyers took the oath that they would perform their duty as required of them.
