THE Lae Snax Tigers on Saturday presented merchandise to its sister club, the Kone Tigers, with the Lae-based franchise acknowledging its Port Moresby counterpart in rugby league.
Lae Tigers team manager Joe Kramer said the relationship between the two teams had been in existence for a long time and would continue with the aim of developing rugby league talent in the country.
“We’re happy to be here and the Lae Biscuit Company has a long history with Kone Tigers, I was once a patron of Kone Tigers for 15 years so I’m not new to this team,” he said.
“Kone Tigers has produced names like Eki Ene, who is a former Kumul, Digicel Cup player and senior club man.
“This club has a lot of history and is a pioneer club of rugby league in Papua New Guinea and Lae Biscuit Company is proud to be associated with this club,” Kramer said.
Kone Tigers club president Benson Upas acknowledged the support from the Lae Tigers saying the bond between the two clubs was strong and both clubs strived to promote the game and good values.
“It’s not mistake that we’re here but we have that relationship and that bond that has brought us together,” he said.
“It’s been a privilege for us as a club to have such an iconic company in PNG to back us this year and we really appreciate that.
“It only shows your support to the club and the relationship that we have for many years to come.”
The merchandise from the Lae Tigers included club shirts, caps and banners plus a donation of 100 tickets for the Digicel Cup grand final that was played on Sunday.
