A DELEGATION from Fujian province in China is visiting Eastern Highlands as a sister-province.
The delegation led by deputy governor of Fujian Guo Ningning was received by EHP Governor Peter Numu, members of the provincial executive council and public servants.
The delegation visited the mushroom and rice incubation centre in North Goroka, the Raun Raun Theatre, the China Yiwu Construction company at Kamaliki and livestock farming at Korofeigu.
Numu said they would continue the sister-province relationship between the two provinces.
He said the Juncao Technology’s work to produce mushroom and rice would be supported and promoted.
Numu said the project had generated income for farmers and assisted their families since its inception in 2000.
He praised scientist and inventor Prof Lin Zhanxi for giving much of his time to Eastern Highlands in developing the mushroom and upland rice technology.
Numu and Ningning addressed the closing ceremony of a training course of the 2019 China-Aid Project on Juncao and Upland Rice Technology to PNG at the National Sports Institute Lecture Hall.
Ningning was happy to witness the closing of the training. “In May 2000, Peti Lafanama, the then Governor of Eastern Highlands visited Fujian at the invitation of Xi Jinping, the then Governor of Fujian Province, now President of China,” she said.
She said the two provinces developed their relationships for nearly 20 years.
“It has helped to develop agriculture and animal husbandry as well as increasing food supply,” she said.
“The development of agriculture is making positive contribution to the local economy.
“It is playing a crucial role in promoting employment and sustainable development of economy and society.
“It has now become a symbol of friendly exchanges between Fujian and Eastern Highlands.”
