Sisters draw with Roosters

THE Teteh Sisters drew 0-0 with Mautana Roosters in their women’s A grade fixture of the Gerehu Off-season Rugby League competition on Saturday.
The women’s competition attracted players from around the suburb and outside with interest growing.
The match at the Gerehu Sports Centre saw neither team able to gain enough momentum and ascendancy for the hour of play.
Roosters player-coach Jacinta Wah said just being part of the competition was an achievement in itself.
“We lost our first game last week and today’s game was very tough where we could not score,” Wah said.
Meanwhile, Gerehu Off-season Rugby League president Frank Kurum said the late inclusion of a women’s division into the competition had increased interest from players and fans and showed their league was growing.
Kurum said it was good to see young women taking up the sport and staying fit and healthy.
He said with the rising number of youths in the suburb it was encouraging to see them joining teams and being involved in rugby league.
He said he as proud that the Gerehu league had a women’s competition.
