REIGNING champions and ladder leaders United Sisters will be looking for a fifth win when they face the fourth-placed Cubs in round six of the Port Moresby Women’s Softball Association (PMWSA) competition at the Bisini Diamonds tomorrow.
Following a loss in round two, the Sisters remain undefeated as they face a tough Cubs side with both teams bagging four wins and a loss each.
Tessa Karai and Cheryl Moka will be on the front foot for the Sisters as they look to continue a high-run count in the competition.
Second-placed Gazelle Team One will look to record another win against Aviat Jets, who are seventh on the ladder, while Stingerz (fifth) face Silver Tips (third).
Mariners (eighth) face Gazelle Team Two (sixth) while Wantoks (ninth) look to better their position on the ladder when they face cellar dwellers Chebu.
“The new concept has helped us with the shortened boundaries and innings, but we have yet to take a lead in what we want to do,” Wantoks coach Cathy Tavol said.
“We’ve improved in parts of the game like our fielding, but there are areas like our batting that will complement what we’re trying to achieve.”
Meanwhile, PMWSA executive Lisa Polum said the extended format of the game would be introduced tomorrow with games to be determined either through time or in five innings.
“The games will no longer end at the bottom of the third inning, but can proceed to the fourth or fifth inning if within the allocated game time of one hour, 15 minutes,” she said.
