SISTERS and Hawks will face of in the Port Moresby women’s rugby league grand final after wins over Defence and Paga Panthers in their preliminary finals yesterday.
The GoGo Cola Hawks came from behind in the second half to level the scores at 18-18 in regulation time before sending Paga packing with a rousing 26-22 win in extra time.
Hawks playmaker Lilah Malabag got her side into the final with a try, a conversion and penalty goal.
The match between the Sisters and Defence had a similar vein with the sisterhood clinching the match by a point (11-10) in extra time.
“It was a great performance by the girls to come back in the second half after trailing 12-10 at halftime,” coach Nao Boge said.
“They were very disciplined on defence and that was what we focused on.
“We executed the game plan well, playing structure, calling the right plays which was impressive.”
Boge said last year his girls also made to the finals but lost in the semi finals but this year they have successfully made it to the finals.
Boge said his side had basically treated the preliminary final as their grand final and that mentality helped them play their best football.
The women’s final will be at the National Football Stadium on Saturday. In the Under-20s, Butterflies and Dobo Warriors qualified for the final after beating the Hohola Flies and Royals.
