COMPETITION leaders United Sister brushed off a strong challenge from archrivals Bears twice over the weekend in the Port Moresby Women’s softball wash-out matches.

It was the top-of-the-table clash  in which the Sisters prevailed over the New Irelanders.

In the first match on diamond two, Sisters thrashed Bears 21-2, while in the second match, which was more competitive, they just managed to pip the Bears 8-7.

The two wins helped Sisters retain top on the ladder, with the Bears and Wantoks in second and third spot respectively.

With the last outstanding games to be played this weekend, Sisters face a battle to maintain the lead and bag the minor premiership. POMSWA publicity officer Antonia Kinit said wash-out games to be played on the weekend are Stingerz vs Chebu,  United Sisters vs Bears,  Mariners vs Wolves and Wantoks vs Gazelle. Results: Chebu 3 Mariners 1, Wolves 9 Mariners 2, Stingers 7 Chebu 1, Bears 11 Gazelle 4, Sisters 21 Bears 2, Gazelle 8 Wantoks 3, Sisters 8 Bears 7.
