POLICE in Telefomin, West Sepik,  reported two separate incidents of sexual assaults on female students.

Because of the remoteness of the areas where the incidents took place, they are trying to organise a trip there.

Rural police station commander Snr Const Terry Dap said the first incident involved two primary school sisters who were returning from marketing on  June 1.

They were chased by two primary school boys, one was caught and raped while the other escaped to raise the alarm.

“The situation is very tense. The boys are known and arrests will be made soon,” Dap said.

The other incident happened on June 1 as well at Okisai village in the Frieda area of Telefomin LLG where a Grade 5 student was sexually assaulted by a group of men.

Police said the girl was threatened and forced to strip before the men took turns to assault her.

Dap said the girl was flown to the Telefomin District Health Centre but due to no medicine she had to be  flown to the Tabubil General Hospital in Western.

Meanwhile, a father of two appeared in the Port Moresby National Court yesterday charged with raping an under-aged girl.

Tence Kum, 28, from Banz in Jiwaka was alleged to have committed the offence between Sept 12, 2011 and June 6 this year and will reappear in court on July 12.
