SP PNG Hunters head coach Michael Marum has secured the services of two promising Digicel Cup players Gulf Isou’s Smith Siviri and Agmark Gurias’ Terry Wapi to trial with the team.
Siviri, 22, was surprised after his coach Norris Selu relayed the message to him from Marum to train with the Hunters this week.
The youngster from Iokea village, Gulf, said he was looking forward to the chance given by Marum and was willing to learn from his time in the Hunters camp.
“This is different level and coming from the Digicel Cup after only four matches it’s very challenging for me,” Siviri said.
The 186cm back is a product of Gulf’s Tei Kariko Rugby League competition.
Siviri attended his was in his first Hunters session yesterday while Wapi arrived later in the afternoon from Kokopo to join the team.
Marum said he was looking at Digicel Cup talent to fill any vacancies that arose during the season.
“We are looking at key positions and we’ll see how well they train and adjust to this level.”
While confirming whether the pair were in line to play for the Hunters at some stage this season, Marum said their inclusion was to give them experience in the club’s set up as they would still be allowed to play for their Digicel Cup franchises.
