Six escapees in Manus back in jail

SIX escapees are back in the Lorengau prison in Manus after escaping from the prison last week.
From the six, one surrendered on Monday morning, with five recaptured on Thursday and Friday, with five still at large.
Manus police commander Chief Insp David Yapu said: “On Monday, April 19, a prisoner surrendered to police in the presence of his family and community leaders of Cancer Hill, Upper Ward 6, Lorengau town.
“On Thursday, four of the escapees were recaptured by police with the sixth escapee recaptured on Friday morning.
“From the six recaptured, five are charged with murder and one is charged with armed robbery.”
Chief Insp Yapu thanked community leaders and relatives of the escapees who had assisted police with the recapture.
“They will be charged for escaping from custody,” he said.
Police and CS are continuing with their operations to search for others still at large and on the run.
Chief Supt Yapu appealed to the community to help police provide information on their whereabouts.
