THE Kavieng Softball Association has concluded its preseason with Base Sliders and Snafu winning the grand final of the Last Pitch tournament in the women’s and men’s divisions respectively.
Tournament director Gabriel Tupi said the aim of the tournament was to revive softball in the province, which they successfully completed on Sunday at the Kavieng Court House Oval.
“In the women’s grand final, the Base Sliders defeated Falcons 12 runs to 3,” Tupi said.
“They started off well in the first inning by scoring five runs then extended their lead to nine runs in the third inning.
“The Falcons capitalised during the third innings with only one run and scored another two runs during the fourth and sixth inning while the Base Sliders extended their lead to 12 runs during the fifth and seventh inning that won the playoff.”
Tupi said the four women’s teams played their best despite a slow start in the preseason.
In the men’s division finals, Snafu beat Kavieng Bears 2-1 in a tough playoff.
“Snafu capitalised on their first run in the third innings while the Bears scored their only run during in the fourth inning,” Tupi said yesterday.
