Slow building of market hit
The National, Friday July 11th, 2014
THERE is a concern at the slow progress made on the construction of the temporary main town market at Mildas in Madang.
Vendors said the construction company engaged by the Madang Urban LLG was too slow.
There was heavy rain yesterday morning and the market opened late, with many complaining about shelters.
“They said they will work on the new market and remove us from the town market last Jan 1 but where’s the market?” Melani Kapulu said.
“They are not even doing anything.”
Naomi Pro a second-hand clothes seller said she sold out in the open and sought shelter at nearby shops when it rained.
“I have no choice so I pack quickly and run for the store to take cover,” Pro said.
Madang town manager Lau Sorum said over K1 million was given to Assorted Building Contractors to construct shelters for the new temporary main market.
But the public have been complaining about the slowness.
