THE 2015 Pacific Games tally has not been updated on a regular basis since Sunday when the first medals were awarded.

The medal tally, which is one of the most checked information on the Games website, has been behind for the first four days of competition with teams ranked according to the total number of medals rather than the total number of gold.

The situation has since be corrected.

Games Organising Committee chief executive officer Peter Stewart said he was unaware of any problems with the system they were using to tally and list the medal information but put any discrepancies down to the time it took for information from the venues to reach the GOC headquarters. “Yes there have been some problems with the tally but these are down to the information on medals being signed off by the technical delegates and them being forwarded to the people here at the GOC who do the tally,” Stewart said.

“These problems are normal for the Pacific Games but we’re managing it and generally things are running smoothly.”

The tally has not been the only teething problem for organisers at the Games with media organisations facing some confusion on who to get information on results from and where it can be obtained.

The press centres located all major venues have not been used yet with Sunday’s weightlifting competition unfurling the first surprising result of the Games where  Commonwealth Games champion Dika Toua failed to dominate her weight division, winning only one gold medal.

Team Papua New Guinea Weightlifting officials ushered Toua away from the waiting media immediately after the medal presentation because some members of the press had broken protocol by interviewing the 31-year-old after the surprise result.
