Small business owners complete financial literacy course

THIRTY-five people with small and medium businesses completed a week-long business development skills (BDS) training to boost their financial literacy skills.
The training was conducted at Hompiri Primary School in Bulolo district, Morobe, by Anis Foundation Incorporation (AFI).
Coordinator of AFI livelihood training programme Jackson Mark said participants came from different backgrounds and experience of entrepreneurship and were eager to learn.
Training was initiated by the national government through Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) and the Centre for Excellence in Financial Inclusion (CEFI).
Mark said the BDS training facilitators from AFI were trained and certified by both BPNG and CEFI.
“The training covered seven sessions, including skills and attitude of an entrepreneur, quick facts about marketing, project costs, costing of a product or service, bookkeeping, inventory register and cash-flow forecast,” he said. “We are happy to be able to help people in our communities to develop skills in these areas.
“We have the capacity to deliver similar BDS training, financial literacy, small business and livelihood improvement training programme to local communities in Morobe and throughout Papua New Guinea.”
