A LAE-based smallgoods company has given a boost the the 6th PNG Games with a sponsorship of K150,000.
Prima Smallgoods is the latest firm to join the sponsorship bandwagon of the biennal sporting tournament.
The presentation was the fourth after Bank South Pacific secured naming rights to the games and Lae Biscuit Company and PNG Ports joined the group of major sponsors in the Garamut package catergory to boost the sponsorship amount to the million kina mark.
Business development manager, Kola Geri said the sponsorship underscored their belief as a nationally-owned company.
He said that the games could be used to promote national unity and a competitive spirit through the participation of athletes from the country’s 22 provinces.
He said the games concept had evolved from its “grassroots” origins to be a prestigious national event with a legacy to make champions out of the talent in the provinces.
“We want to be part of this development and identification process by lending our support to our young athletes who can one day carry our national flag on the regional and international stage,” Geri said.
Geri said there was no better way for the company to give something back to the community and country than through the PNG Games which was an important event in its own right and a lead-up to the Pacific Games in Port Moresby next year.
“Our sponsorship is in line with our corporate and social obligations to the community to support popular community-oriented activities.”
PNG Games chief executive officer Materua Tamarua thanked Prima Smallgoods for their willingness to be part of the PNG Games.
“Your assistance is timely because right now, time is of the essence for the host organising committee to deliver the games for the 22 provinces,” Tamarua said.
“It’s good to see local companies really getting behind this event.”
