A SMALL-medium enterprise (SME) group made up of widows and orphans plan to venture into sewing because it is a profitable business, according to their association president Doris Wemin.
Bomai Guns Women Association in Makana, North East, thanked local MP John Kaupa for supporting women in micro to small-medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Wemin said the group was made up of widows, mothers with problems and orphans to support each other.
“We can now access funds made available by Kaupa to operate our business,” she said.
Wemin said the association had sewing equipment available and was planning to train members in basic sawing skills.
“I want to train mothers and girls to sew so that together, we can supply the increasing demand in the city.
“My aim is to support mothers to venture into sewing so they can sustain themselves.”
She said they had a vision to help each other to improve their living standards and through the support of their MP, they would achieve their dream.
Wemin said their main focus was to sew blouses, shirts, caps and other garments to meet a increasing demand.
“This way, the women and girls can create their own MSME,” she said.
“We all work together to help each other.”
According to Prime Minister James Marape, Kaupa was the first MP to implement the initiatives to help women in his district.
He said K1.5 million was distributed to every electorate in the country to roll out MSMEs and urged people not to waste time in the city. “The Government is backing you to grow, make business and reap from your hard-work,” he said. Kaupa said his district had given priority to mothers and individuals to enhance self-entrepreneurs for economic self-reliance and poverty alleviation.

  • WOMEN’S SME GROUP FORMED. CALLED THEMSELF BOMAI GUNS.

Those group of women are they from Simbu ( Chuave District) or a combination of women group.
I express my concern about the group name mentioned BOMAI GUNS. This name Bomai Guns (original is BOMAII GANN) was invented by one of my brother during his high school schooling days in 1986-1987 at Chuave high school now call Yauwe Moses high.
That expression of name Bomaii Gann was used in a small clan in Chuave district of East Elimbari, Gai Kibi Kaki nem, Dereperonga. However was wide spread.

Women especial in East Elimbari shouldn’t use such name Bomai GUNS. they should say Bomai Apra or Bomai Ambai.
