SME policy needs less interference

SIX years of work to formulate the Small Medium Enterprise (SME) policy was never a wasted effort at all after having a glimpse of the policy.

It is truly a job well done by Trade, Commerce and Industry Minister Richard Maru and the hard working committee members.

Implementing the policy now remains a challenge especially when political interference is inevitable in such institutions.

Considering also is the change of government, history has proven that successive governments come up with new policies where by in most cases the efforts of the predecessors are never fulfilled.

If the Government commits with funding, as stated by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, and interferes less the policy will be implemented fully for the entrepreneurs.

The only risk now is the political interference and the threat of successive government not implementing the policy.
