Snipers beat Vanama to retain pre-season cup
The National, Wednesday 18th April 2012
RETENTION was on the agenda in the Nambawan Trophy NCD Volleyball Association (NCDVA) pre-season Cup final on Sunday at the TLC Volleyball courts.
The finals saw the Snipers retaining the Men’s shield and the U-Mi Yet girls keeping the Women’s.
Snipers decimated Vanama with a barrage of high calibre, sniper scope precise spikes.
As is the case with most victims of sniper attacks, the Vanama boys did not know what hit them and by the time the fire ceased, three sets had passed all in favor of the riflemen.
In the women’s final however, the Snipers were served a cold glass of revenge by the U-Mi Yet girls who served out the same scoreline as the men, 3-0.
In the semi finals, Snipers bolted Scorpions in straight sets while Vanama scraped through after being stretched to 21-19 by U-Mi Yet in the tie-breaker.
U-Mi Yet women were also pushed to the decider by After Dark but Snipers qualified beating Pom Tech 3-1.
The cup winners walked off with K600, runner ups received K400, third placed teams got K300 each and fourth K200 each.
The tournament was sponsored by Lio Hicks, owner of Vincent Hicks Ltd and patron of NCD VA who assisted K7,000.
Individual awards were also presented for outstanding performers as follows:
Best and fairest – Snipers’ Timo Kila (Men) and U-Mi Yet’s Nope Karo (Women)
Best Passer – Vanama’s Daugo (Men) and After Dark’s Gomara Kone (Women)
Best Setter – Vanama’s Aitu Morea (Men) and After Dark’s Vano Vagi (Women)
Best Spiker – Snipers’ Poka Ai (Men) and U-Mi Yet’s Cassie Ikilik (Women)
Best Blocker – Scorpion’s Jnr Koi (Men) and Sniper’s Mithie Alu (Women).
The NCDVA proper season will start on April 21 after the ITI Cup.
